"Hi Donna! Do you happen to like Kim Nam Gil too? Kim Nam Gil is set to be out from the army this July, there were talks of him starring in drama adaptation of My Girlfriend is An Agent Korean movie. This would be his first rom-com if this project pushes through. Can't wait to see him again. ^^ P.S. A post-army shower scene is a mandatory, it is a must! Rawr!"
Kim Nam Gil
To this, Donna responded:
"Not exactly a fan. My typical type are the boy next door looking dudes with a surprise center aka the bad boy vibe. Kim Nam Gil is too much of a macho man for my taste. Sure I like my men well built and with chocolate abs but I want them to have pretty boy good looks like that of Lee Dong Wook or Hyun Bin. Excited for you though that your oppa is coming out of MS soon. I can't wait for Binnie to be out in December. I'm really looking forward to his next project."
Hyun Bin
This reminds me of a similar situation between me and my best friend, Ontin.
Ontin is a big fan of Kim Nam Gil. Thus, her taste in men is similar to that of the anon (Ontin said, her ideal type is Fauzi Baadilla). My taste, on the contrary, is similar to Donna's.
Then all of a sudden, I'm wondering, what makes this difference? There are women who like their men manly, but there are also women who like their men pretty. Why?
Here's an explanation I can come up with.
I know I might be wrong. So I'm open to any other thoughts from you guys. (Or maybe there's already a psychological theory about it? Care to share?)
When I think about it, is it possible that our taste in men is affected by our father?
Ontin's father is the manly type. He grows mustache and beard, looking strong and manly. On the other side, my father is more of a kkotminam (flower boy) type. He's cute-looking and doesn't grow beard or mustache.
My dad
(I'm not sure if I'm allowed to share Ontin's father's picture.
So I decided not to.)
Then I think of more examples.
Luki's (my other best friend) father is also manly-looking --> Luki likes manly men.
Induk's (Utin's college friend) father is an uke type --> Induk likes uke men.
One of my uncle grows mustache and looks tough --> His daughter (my cousin, Ana) is always in a relationship with military guy.
My other uncle doesn't grow mustache --> His daughter's (my cousin, Yeni) ideal type is FT Island's Jonghun.
See? From those examples, I came to a generalization that our dad affects our taste in men. I honestly can't imagine myself living with a Kim-Nam-Gil-type-of-man. Of course, I'm talking about physical feature. For the inside, who doesn't want his man to be tough and dependable?
What do you guys think? Are you an exception?
